Elemental Series: Revitalise & Grow with the Wood Element

Welcome to The Shanti Space's Elemental Series. A series of workshops designed to facilitate well-being and connection by harmonising the body to the life rhythms and seasons of Nature.

Open up to Springtime // The Wood Element (TCM)

Introducing the concept of Yin and Yang and the 5 Elements focussing on the Wood Element represented by the Liver and the Gallbladder in the body. This workshop of the series relates to Spring, the season associated with Wood. Expect to grow and expand with this vibrant and dynamic workshop that aims to attune us (our bodies, the microcosm) with the energies of the outside world (the macrocosm), which we are in constant communication with. During the change of a season it is common for this communication to become impeded and when there is disparity between the two, illness can manifest. Hence why seasonal treatments in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) are extremely valuable at helping us transition into the next season to help prevent illness and disharmony.

Through movement, meditation and sound we will stimulate the Wood element and open up the Liver and Gallbladder meridians, to help transition us from the stiller and denser energies of Winter into the more active and expansive energies of Spring.

What’s Included:

- Discourse on Daoism & The Wood Element
Introduction to ancient Chinese philosophical thought including yin and yang and the 5 Elements with a focus on the Wood Element and all its correspondences and relationships to the body.

- Daoist Yoga Practice
Energetic yang form of practice where you will learn the Advance Retreat Warrior set and Liver movement in the 5 Element Qi Gong Sequence. One of the Liver’s major functions, governing the smooth flow of qi through out the body, will be stimulated by this dynamic movement set.

- Meditation
After our Qi Gong we will do a standing meditation called Wu Ji to integrate the practice. Wu Ji purifies resistance and has a neutralising effect, bringing the student to the point of Dao (centre/oneness).

- Yin Yoga
Yin is passive in nature. The class’s approach will be gentle and functional, guiding students to view the body from within, moving away from superficial aesthetics to focus on the purpose of each posture taking into account the reality of skeletal variation, anatomical uniqueness and mindful approach. The asanas can feel quick to respond, challenging, activating and emotional, focusing on accessing and stimulating the Liver and Gallbladder meridians in the body.

- Sound Bath
Relax and rejuvenate in shavasana to the sound and vibrations of singing bowls, the hang drum and our beautiful Earth gong tuned to 432Hz (the resonance of Planet Earth). The gong is one of the oldest instruments of healing and has been used for thousands of years in meditation, ceremony and rituals.

Sound and vibration help facilitate a deep sense of peace, release tension and blocked energy, and balance the energy centres in the body. They are working at a cellular level to rebalance the physical, emotional and spiritual bodies.
